Experiments, Demos and Thingamabobs
A collection of small programs that showcase some of the capabilities of the platform
The Texas Instruments TI-99/4A Console
Released in 1981, the TI-99/4A was the world's first 16-bit consumer home computer, built around unique architecture constraints that inspire modern homebrew engineers.
TMS9900 16-Bit Microprocessor
Operates at 3.0 MHz with a 16-bit internal architecture. Uniquely stores its 16 general-purpose registers (R0-R15) in memory pointed to by the Workspace Pointer (WP), enabling instantaneous context switches.
TMS9918A / F18A Video Display Processor
Provides 16KB of dedicated VRAM, 32 hardware sprites, and 16 vibrant colors. Modern consoles often feature the F18A FPGA upgrade, adding 80-column text, 64-color palettes, and an on-chip 100MHz GPU coprocessor.
Banked ROM & Peripheral Expansion
While stock cartridges are limited to 8KB of address space, Tidepod automates dynamic bank switching across 64+ banks up to 2MB, allowing rich assets, chiptunes, and high-level C code to flourish.
